Mike is a graduate of Pittsburg State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting with a minor in Economics. Mike began his surety career in 1997 with American States Insurance as a bond trainee in Ft. Scott, KS. Upon completion of the program, American States Insurance was purchased by Safeco Insurance Company and he moved to Kansas City with them in 1998. In 2000, Mike transferred to Boston with Safeco for a couple of years before returning to Kansas City with St. Paul Surety in 2002. He moved to Zurich Surety in 2004 after Travelers purchased St. Paul Surety. In 2006, he entered the broker side as a Surety Account Executive for a large regional broker specializing in construction risk and bonding and later moved to production in 2018. Mike joined Rich & Cartmill in 2025 as a Producer/Surety Specialist focusing on construction risks, surety bonds, real estate development, and related industries.
Mike has served/serves on the AGC of KS Board of Directors, Member Committee Chair for AGC of KS, Builders Association Board of Directors, Builders Association PAC, Kansas Contractors Association PAC, National Steering Committee of the AGCA Construction Leadership Council, Past Construction Leadership Council Chair for both the Builders Association and AGC of KS, NASBP’s 5-15 Leadership Committee, Surety Association of Kansas City, and several other surety and construction association committees.
Mike and his wife Angela reside in Shawnee, KS, and enjoy spending time with family and friends, riding motorcycles, along with traveling and time at the Lake of the Ozarks.
