Summer Internship Program

Rich & Cartmill’s Summer Internship Program is designed to introduce college students to the dynamic and rewarding career opportunities available within the independent insurance industry. Intended for students entering their senior (final) year of college, this hands-on program provides meaningful exposure to the many career paths available within an independent insurance agency while developing a broad understanding of agency operations, risk management, client relationships, and the vital partnerships between agencies and insurance carriers.

In addition to learning about careers within an independent insurance agency, interns gain valuable insight into the many professional opportunities available on the carrier side of the industry. Through visits with our carrier partners and interactions with professionals in underwriting, claims, loss control, actuarial, marketing, and other key departments, interns develop a well-rounded understanding of how agencies and carriers work together to serve clients and manage risk.

What You’ll Experience

  • Hands-on learning alongside experienced producers and customer service representatives
  • Job shadowing with producers, CSRs, and other insurance professionals
  • Client meetings, agency operations, and real-world business experiences
  • Exposure to every core department: Commercial Lines, Personal Lines, Surety Bonds, Employee Benefits, Accounting, IT, and Operations
  • Visits with insurance carrier partners to learn about underwriting, claims, loss control, surety, and other carrier functions
  • Professional development, mentorship, and networking opportunities with industry leaders
  • A comprehensive understanding of the independent insurance business model and the many career paths within the industry
